Greetings, lovely souls
As we dive into the third installment of the 7-Step 2024 Self-Care Checklist, let's take a moment to appreciate the journey so far. We've embarked on a path of intentional self-care, and the activities delivered in theses blog post are designed to be savored one by one, ensuring a gentle and nurturing approach to well-being.
Today's agenda holds a special place in my heart, and I hope it resonates with each of you:
🫧 Part Three: Do Something Your Childhood Self Loved 🫧
Yes, that's right! Today, I invite you to revisit the simple joys and pleasures that captivated your heart in childhood. As we grow older, we often internalize the notion that certain activities are no longer deemed suitable for adults. Whether it's swinging at the park, relishing a lollipop, or indulging in an animated film, we somehow convince ourselves that these pursuits are reserved for a younger version of us.
But where is it written that adulthood necessitates abandoning the things that bring genuine joy? I challenge you to locate the manual for adulting that explicitly states we must relinquish the so-called "silly" things that once fueled our happiness. Spoiler alert: such a memo does not exist.
So, in the spirit of breaking free from these self-imposed restrictions, I encourage you to embark on a journey of rediscovery. Choose one thing that you loved doing as a child, an activity you abandoned for reasons that now seem trivial. Bonus points if you respond to this email, sharing your chosen activity, because let's face it – we could all use a bit of silliness and playfulness in our lives!
Why Revisiting Childhood Joys Matters
Rediscover Authentic Joy
As we navigate the complexities of adulthood, we often lose touch with the unbridled joy that characterized our childhood. Revisiting activities that once brought us happiness allows us to reconnect with a purer, more authentic sense of joy. It's a powerful reminder of what truly makes our hearts light up.
Break Free from Societal Expectations
Society often imposes rigid expectations on adulthood, dictating what is deemed "appropriate" for individuals of a certain age. By embracing activities that our younger selves relished, we liberate ourselves from these societal constraints. It's an act of reclaiming personal freedom and asserting that joy knows no age limit.
Nurture Creativity and Imagination
Children are naturally imaginative and creative. Engaging in activities from your childhood can reignite those creative sparks that may have dimmed over the years. Whether it's drawing, playing make-believe, or crafting, tapping into your inner child fosters a vibrant imagination that can positively impact various aspects of your life.
Foster a Sense of Playfulness
Life's responsibilities often weigh us down, leaving little room for playfulness. Returning to the activities that once made you giggle and smile brings a sense of playfulness back into your life. It reminds us that laughter and joy are essential components of a well-rounded and fulfilling existence.
Reconnect with Your True Self
Childhood pursuits are often genuine expressions of our true selves. Revisiting these activities provides an opportunity to reconnect with aspects of our identity that may have been overshadowed by adult responsibilities. It's a chance to rediscover the core of who you are and what brings you unfiltered happiness.
Stress Relief and Mindfulness
Engaging in activities that once brought you joy can serve as a powerful stress reliever. Whether it's playing a childhood game, riding a bicycle, or simply enjoying a favorite treat, these moments of mindfulness transport you back to a simpler time, offering a respite from the complexities of adult life.
Strengthen Emotional Well-being
Childhood memories are often associated with feelings of innocence and simplicity. Reconnecting with those memories through activities you loved as a child can have a positive impact on your emotional well-being. It brings a sense of nostalgia, comfort, and emotional warmth that contributes to a healthier mindset.
Choosing Your Childhood Joy
Now, you may be wondering, how do you choose the perfect childhood joy to revisit? Here are a few prompts to guide you:
- Reflect on Fond Memories: Think back to your early years and recall activities that brought you immense joy. It could be playing with friends, drawing, singing, or exploring nature.
- Consider Abandoned Hobbies: Were there hobbies or interests you loved as a child but left behind as you grew older? This could be the perfect opportunity to revive those passions.
- Embrace Spontaneity: Allow yourself to be spontaneous in your choice. It could be something as simple as blowing bubbles, flying a kite, or enjoying your favorite childhood snack.
- Involve Loved Ones: If possible, involve friends or family in this activity. Sharing childhood joys with loved ones can enhance the experience and create lasting memories.
Embracing the Journey Ahead
As you embark on this journey to rediscover the joys of your childhood, remember that there is no judgment or expectation. This is a personal and joyous exploration designed to bring lightness to your heart and a smile to your face.
Feel free to share your chosen childhood joy with me in the comments. Let's celebrate the beauty of embracing our inner child and savoring the simple pleasures that make life truly magical.
Wishing you laughter, playfulness, and a heart full of joy
